MAARDEC’S NOVEL CHILDREN’S DAY
Maardec’s Novel Children’s day idea berthed during one of the various discussions about discrimination against persons with disabilities especially children. For those of us that have gone through educational institutions, we realized that discrimination didn’t just begin when we became adults; most of our perceptions were formed as children. Hence, Maardec’s novel children’s day was born.
The aim of the celebration is to use a nationally celebrated holiday for children to build bridges of love and friendship between children with disabilities and their able bodied counterparts.
Unlike the average children’s day party, parents are not left out. They are invited to actively participate in the activities of the day so that they can also learn from experienced hands in the disability community, how to relate with people with disabilities especially children and be inspired and encouraged.
The celebration brings together children with disabilities and their able bodied counterparts in the same arena giving the children opportunities to appreciate the differences in their abilities and appreciate the uniqueness of their individual lives
